Butterfly Workshop and Release Party
Join the kids of Alameda Point Collaborative for a workshop about butterflies followed by a release of butterflies into the garden at Ploughshares. This is a kid oriented mini-class! There will be lots of butterflies.

‘A Tale of Five Natives’
Join Ploughshares nursery manager Jeff Bridge for an in-depth exploration of five native plants including an explanation of their role as habitat plants, where they occur in the natural environment, their use by native peoples and how to best care for them. The five native plants for your consideration are Hummingbird Sage, White Sage, Buckeye, Basket Grass and Yerba Buena. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session about native plants in urban gardens. See you there!

‘Pollination to the People’
Ruby Blume is the co-author of the popular book ‘Urban Homesteading’, she speaks at Garden Clubs and Schools throughout California….
This is an introduction to pollination ecology, the wild world of bees and pollinator friendly gardening for folks who are curious and want to nurture an awareness for these beloved hardworking critters. We will learn about the lifecycles and biology of honey bees and native bee and the differences between the two and what you can provide to support more bee and insect life in your garden. We learn to how to tell the difference between a bee, a wasp and a fly and how to identify a few of our local native bees. We will get the lowdown on Colony Collapse Disorder, touch on natural beekeeping and practices that support the health of the honey bee.
