About Us

Our Professional Team


Our professional managers train and supervise residents of Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) in horticulture technology through APC's on-the-job training program.

Jocelyn Bentley-Prestwich, General Manager

Jocelyn brings expertise in horticultural consultation and garden design to Ploughshares. She has worked in botanical gardens and arboretums nationwide as well as managed her own garden design and installation consultancy in the Bay Area. Jocelyn earned a BA at Smith College with a concentration in landscape architecture and design.

Diane Nelson, Propagation and Garden Coordinator

Diane brings expertise in large scale propagation and greenhouse management, retail sales, and gardening instruction to Ploughshares. Her previous experience includes working with a wholesale plant nursery, a farm, a farmers cooperative, and a community gardening program. Diane is a certified master composter.


Andrea Schorr, Director of Social Enterprise

Andrea serves as the supervising business manager for Ploughshares with a focus on financial management, marketing, and double bottom line growth. Prior to joining Ploughshares Andrea worked with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a Portfolio Manager for US Programs. Her previous experience also includes working as a founding manager of two start up education social ventures and as an operations manager and program officer with venture philanthropy funds in Washington, DC and New York City. Andrea has a MBA from The George Washington University School of Business and studied transaction cost economics and performance management at Copenhagen Business School. She completed a BA in political science at Yale University.

Our Parent Organization

Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) is a supportive housing community that manages 200 units of housing for formerly homeless individuals and families. APC is located on 34 acres of the converted Alameda Naval Air Station.
