Our
Staff
Our Sales Manager, Michael Anderson has years of experience working in retail
horticulture, with a particular interest in native and climate appropriate
landscaping. He is assisted by residents of the Alameda Point Collaborative
working in an on-the-job training program. Volunteers are also welcomed
and encouraged to help as we propagate plants and create the demonstration
gardens that wil be the central focus of the nursery.
Our Advisors
The Ploughshares Nurser Advisory Board consists of members with expertise
in landscaping, organic farming, environmental science, small business
entrepreneurship and green building design. They meet on a regular basis
to guide the development of the nursery. In 2003, the Advisory Board assisted
APC in the preparation of a business plan that was entered in a national
competition sponsored by the Yale School of Management. The Ploughshares
Nursery placed in the top 20 nationwide, out of more than 500 plans submitted.
Our Parent Organization
The Alameda Point Collaborative is a supportive housing community that
serves 500 formerly homeless individuals and families, located on 34 acres
of the converted Alameda Naval Air Station. Supportive housing has proven
to be one of the most effective models for ending the vicious cycle of
homelessness Our mission is “One community enriching lives through the
sharing of resources and talents.” More information can be found at www.apcollaborative.org
